A2D2
A2D2 reported that women made up 40% of the world’s top 10 “hardest-working” DJs in 2022-2023. Female DJs are said to play twice as many shows as male DJs, according to a new study from music tech company A2D2. Female DJs averaged around 23 gigs in 2023, while male DJs averaged 13.

The study revealed that women may have to work twice as hard as men to reach the same recognition, using data from DJ Mag’s Top 100. Although only 11 female artists appeared on the 100-strong list, A2D2 reports that they account for 40% of the top 10 hardest-working DJs.

IMS Business Report
The 2021 IMS Business Report found that women had a slightly stronger presence on the DJ Mag’s “Top 100 DJs” list.

Other factors that contribute to the underrepresentation of women in the music industry include: historical and cultural norms, societal biases and discrimination, and institutional barriers.
