Take a deep breath: When feeling an emotional reaction, take a deep breath and step back to witness what’s happening.
Practice mindfulness: Practice mindfulness, such as meditation, working out, or breathing, to become more conscious and aware of what’s happening to you and around you.

Take a moment and choose a safe place to stand or sit.
1) Breathe comfortably, look around you, and find three things to look at. Large or small. Observe and find three distinguishing aspects: color, distance, and shape.
2) Isolate three sounds you hear around you. Listen and describe them: birds, mechanical, repetitive.
3) Identify three sensations: a breeze, the hardness or the softness of the seat, or hunger. Describe the sensations.
4) Take three refreshing and gratifying breaths.
