A seamount is a large submarine landform that rises from the ocean floor without reaching the water surface and Von Hochstetter Seamount is an extensive elevation located at 34°57’7S, 81°07’5E. Discovered it in 1857 by Christian Gottlieb Ferdinand Ritter von Hochstetter (30 April 1829 – 18 July 1884) a German-Austrian geologist on board The R/V Novara.

Dr. R. L. Fisher proposed the seamount in 1987, and The SCGN accredited the seamount later the same year.
